HW #4 - Jamie Vasquez (What is Art activism?)

                                                                 The Art of activism -

"Maria recalled listening to the many stories of her grandfather, who had come to the United States from Mexico to work in agricultural fields. He told her stories about of the discrimination he faced, but also of how he organized with other workers to demand better wages and conditions and restore his sense of pride. It was these stories that led Maria to become an immigrant rights activist"

"As artistic activists, we are always trying to generate, creating expiernces that generate feelings that have demonstrated..."

- With this quote, it is something that I deeply relate to on an other level. as a daughter that has came from an immigrant family, they have taught me so much history based on their experience and even on my own experience, going through situations that targeted my race, and my culture. seeing these things pushes me more to speak up about immigration rights, stepping out of my comfort zone to speak up about what is right and what needs to be done. with their stories and their experiences, it pushes me to be that person who always needs to say something especially on conversations about rights for people who are immigrants.

- With this quote, I feel like it is something that really points us artists out about being a person of talent in art and being a person involved in politics and being a deep rooted activist. Through our experiences, wether through family or even watching news and reading articles, it is something that helps us generate the art we create today, that connects us together through shapes, colors, format and more. Art is more than just a talent and it is something that gives us a fuel to speak up about the things that deserves to be talked about.

                                                           An Introduction to activist art

" The goals of activist artworks can also vary widely. Works can challenge racism, sexism, authoritarian regimes, or war. They usually have a common dominator, which is a focus on political and social issues with the intent to change or influence public opinion by confronting people with an unjust or problematic status quo.

"The interests, hardships, and experiences of marginalized groups are often underrepresented or not discussed at all. Activist art can make these specific experiences visible and include them in historical, social, and political discourse"

-  With this quote, art work can be the voices of others who cannot speak up or who are not being heard enough. art is something that makes us connect and it is something that is so cultural and trendy especially in our generation. Sometimes, it is also the only thing that catches our attention to finally realize what is going on in the world. it is a strong and unique to confront others by going against social norms.

- With this quote, I can agree on. hardships and experiences are mostly the biggest inspiration to a lot of artist including me to generate the art we need to come up with. memories and experiences are not just things we go through life, it is something that allows us to testify about something that the world is so quiet about or against.

Artist using their creativity to drive activism

"His meticulous artistry serves as a vivid reminder of environmental challenges and promotes responsible consumption while honoring cultural diversity."

" Her poetry becomes a bridge, uniting cultures, and igniting the fight for human rights. Through her artistry and unwavering advocacy, Mahmoud highlights the power of artists to shape a brighter world — one poignant verse at a time."

- With this quote, it is something that awakens a lot of artists. when it comes to art, it is enjoyable to see honoring cultural diversity and promoting responsible consumption for others to see their point of their art.

- With this poetry is definitely something I enjoy using especially to raise awareness onto a specific topic or situation that is going on in the real world. it is something that is gracefully found and even used to speak with words with deep meaning. poetry is just more than words.

                                                                What is Art Activism?

- Part 1

Social Media Campaigns

Community Events/Protests

Helping Local Policy

Part 2- Art activism is a way to protest and to speak up based on political point of views and it is a unique way to grab our attention and to be able to speak when words cannot be used. it is something that is used deeply within our generation to uniquely provide a voice for others and is something that should be used more.

Jacob lawrence - 1940 - 41

This artwork is by Jacob Lawrence. above shows a piece with people in a line, awaiting for something under the label "tickets" in a sense, this portrays the life of those who migrate and are immigrants, finally taking a step forward to what they were looking for and to start a new life. when I look at this artwork, the word new beginnings pops up in my head.. knowing that as a daughter of immigrant parents, this is something that a lot of people here in America goes through. it is a diverse experience. this is a way of showing activism through out art by the topic of migration, standing up for what is right and for the rights of human beings to be belonged here in the states, deserving a chance for a new life.
