Meme as Resistance - Johana Lira

I decided to make this meme because society now claims men can and are socially allowed to express their emotions, but whenever they do, they will always be criticized and made fun of for showing vulnerability or being seen as too "feminine". That shows how gender stereotypes are still strongly used, harming those men that are willing to express their emotions and are tired of suppressing them. 

What is patriarchy?

- The definition bell hooks has about patriarchy is that society gives men the full power and authority to be above every living organism, everyone is weaker and needs men to have dominance using violence, to maintain control over our social system. In our society we are surrounded by patriarchy, white supremacy and capitalism either we want it or not. All three of them are a system made by men for men to decide who is valued, who is listened to and who has the power to control our everyday decisions. 

                        How can memes act as a form of resistance and advocacy?

- Memes can be used as a way to show resistance and advocacy, because each one is unique and visually appealing, often using some exaggerating ways of humor, or irony in order to express discomfort, disapproval, or criticize the poor decisions of our '"leaders" or other things that are unfair around the world. Memes are a way people can peacefully protest and speak their minds while encouraging more people to see the bigger picture, think more critically about their own decisions, and help make the world a better place to live in.
