Art Intervention Idea
for my midterm, I wanted to do art about immigration. as a daughter of two immigrant parents, it is. completely hard to live through these times and sometimes we need to hear words of encouragement and inspiration when the only thing we hear is chaos. seeing the news, article titles and other things create a frustrating mindset inside, wondering if there is someone out there who will listen and speak up about it. when going through these thoughts, I finally wanted to do something about it and to be able to speak up. I decided to make a flyer, and include a QR code that others will be able to scan! writers are able to type anything in their desired language! (must be appropriate) and I will be able to gather around the submitted words onto the form and paste it onto a blank page, surrounding the words around for others to see when it is on display! I feel like this idea is something that is very affective, small but can be an impact to those who need to hear positive words after being submerged into the negativity of the world now. it is important to be the voice that others NEED to hear, even if it is uncomfortable.. stepping out of your comfort zone does NOT hurt your voice neither your representation of yourself. I believe it is our time as a young society to step out to the light and speak up even if it means to scream. with this, I wanted other individuals to write words of encouragement for those who are going through hard times.. later adding them to a painting for the final! https://www.canva.com/design/DAHDAzOR7Ag/34qhe-LAXOW6IAnmSaYKxA/view?utm_content=DAHDAzOR7Ag&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link2&utm_source=uniquelinks&utlId=h0683cc5a68
What was my Inspiration for this?
The art work that inspired by idea was this painting by Juan J Hernandez named "Buscando" also translated to "Searching" with this art work, looking at it, it represents something big in the latin community especially for those who are immigrants. the word search is something very big in this topic as many of those who are immigrants, search for a better life, search for a meaning in life, search for their purpose in life and search for the best for them. The art is depicted with several men, all in different colored jackets which gives a tone to the art work.

Another artwork that inspired me was an art work called the "undocumented bus" this specific art work inspired me through the creativity of the artist, such as including an monarch butterfly which represents migration, especially in Mexico and other latin countries. the phrase "No Papers, No Fear" is something that popped up to me while trying to create the interactive flyer.. proving that immigrants create a beautiful community around us, despite of their vulnerability and their fear to speak up. although they may have the voice to do so, during these times it is scary to do so. I believe we have that voice that could speak up, even with arts and other materials that don't require speaking but gets ATTENTION! A CALL TO ACTION!
Another Inspiration to my art work is my personal experience who's family member was detained my I.C.E. as a daughter in a family filled with immigrants.. going through an experience that brought damage to me and my family.. my uncle was unfortunately detained by I.C.E on December 15th of 2025 in Teaneck, New Jersey. While he was on his way to work, 2 vehicles stopped him and ordered him to step out the car, pressuring him to show proof of citizenship. He was then taken to Delaney Hall, a detention center in Newark, New Jersey. 2 weeks later, me and my family found out he was taken across the state to Folkston, Georgia. It was a tough process to get him out and required patience, My mind was filled with chaos everyday, striving to find hope while being in such a dark situation. Hearing his complaints about the horrible conditions over the phone made me want to do something more louder.. push society to speak up more. I felt weak at some point and thought there was no way to speak up about this.. I am just a student in college with no expierence with protesting or public speaking in my town.. after finding a lawyer for my uncle, it took about almost a month to get him out till Feburary 20th, 2026. The judge ordered the state to allow my uncle to be out of the detention center as a posed NO threat to our community. after a week, my uncle and my family was able to reunite and held a surprise party for him. It was truly a victory for my family and definitely a huge middle finger to trump and his evil administration.
