What is Art Performance?
Art Performance is the way or action to use art in physical form such has the body, materials and more. it is to view ones art work and their process and the ability to see their art work through a view of how it is composed. it often engages with people in unique ways, often being an experience that most individuals enjoy. it is a way were art is able to provoke dialogue, thoughts and even reaction through topics and subjects within the art making. its a way to spark ideas and even a way to start questioning what is art, why is it? How?
Performance Art, An Introduction
"Drawing on these influences, new artistic formats emerged in the late 1950s. Environments and Happenings physically placed viewers in commonplace surroundings, often forcing them to participate in a series of loosely structured actions."
I agree with this quote, when we are involved in something especially with art.. we tend to stop and think.. to participate and actually be part of something that stops the world and most people and to think about the construction of our community, the society that we live in
"Shifting attention from the art object to the artist’s action further suggested that art existed in real space and real time."
When we change our attention to the artist rather than the art made by them.. we tend to find the actual art within them. Their morals, motives and more. Art is a way to express but when you look at the artist, the person who came up with the whole concept of the art.. we can technically see what kind of soul they are.. shifting our thoughts and our feelings from the art to the meaning.
Yoko Ono's Art of Defiance
""She left after two semesters. She said the university made her feel “like a domesticated animal being fed information.” This proved to be a lifelong allergy to anything organized or institutional. “I don’t believe in collectivism in art nor in having one direction in anything,” she later wrote."
As a young adult attending college, I could say sometimes that society puts an expectation and even the college on students about being succesful, following the great jobs that most people take for money, following an example from others.. especially as an art student, I felt told if its something I want to do.. of its even worth after me graduating. I feel like sometimes we take in too much information.. we no longer know what to do with our lives, questioning if this walk were on is even possible to make out with something achievable.
"She and Keisuke would lie on their backs looking at the sky through an opening in the roof of the house where they lived. She would ask him what kind of dinner he wanted, and then tell him to imagine it in his mind. This seemed to make him happier. She later called it 'maybe my first piece of art".
With this, i feel like with small life expiernces or even paying attention to the small details while we live, we can make anything with it with art. Art doesn’t only exsist on paper or through a pencil and paint brushes, its through out eyes and our perception of it..
Chapter Three | Art activism
"He physically threw out the money changers and kicked over their tables, using his body and his actions to convey his message. It was an affective political performance so provocative that news of his deed, and therefore his message, traveled throughout the city.
With this quote talking about Jesus, a figure who used his will and ability to talk to his fellow community and even outsiders, through his words, he interpreted it into something other will understand, making them question what is it? Why is that?
“Humor is a key element in successful artistic activism. Where polemics and assertions put people on guard, and ask them to either agree or disagree, humor works more obliquely and doesn't demand that a person take a stand, at least not imme-diately. As such, humor allows us to reach people who would otherwise shut us and our message out”.
Humor is something that everyone likes and enjoys. It is something or some way where we are able to take a stand on something without being over explaining it.. humor is a form of art which we use daily throughout communication with others.. online or even in person.. expressing our overall morals and beliefs through society and their norms.
