Introduction post 1 - Johana Lira

My name is Johana Lira, and I am almost a 21-year-old Mexican photographer.

I want to be a well-known photographer in the future. I still don't know what realm of photography I would like to pursue, but so far I love to take pictures of the moon and landscapes.

I recently made a font for my typography class, and it's called Dark Knight. It is a font that has sharp ends and no circles.

Homework:

UNDERSTANDING PATRIARCHY- BELL HOOKS
  • "Patriarchy is a political-social system that insists that males are inherently dominating, superior to everything and everyone deemed weak, specially females"
  • "the right to dominate and rule over the weak and to maintain that dominance through various forms of psychological terrorism and violence"
- Both of these quotes talk about how men will always feel that they have the right to be superior. Women that are raised in these types of patriarchal households are suppressed and sometimes beaten because they are not delicate like a lady should and also leave mental and psychological traumas.

WHAT MEMES OWE TO ART HISTORY- ALICE BUCKNELL

  • "memes re-branded the form as a type of performance rather than a purely visual object"
  • "All were quick to circulate, and quicker to slip out of the spotlight"
- I think that every meme has easy access to gain popularity, they are as easy to gain it as well as to lose the so-called, spotlight. Every single meme can be considered a form of performance, because it's the creativity that a person has about something that already exists and adds more meaning or context to it.

MEMES ARE OUR GENERATION'S PROTEST ART- SAGE LAZZARO

  • "The ability for the meme to empower and push back can be really powerful. They're definitely sites of resistance against perceptions of abuse of power. They spread so quickly and evolve and transform, and it's hard to shut them down in the way other forms of communicative protest can be silenced"
  • "At their core, all memes, regardless of their politics, are a tool for expression"
- I do find memes to help people express their feelings towards something they are against. They help people gain confidence because they know others will agree with their way of thinking. It is a tool that many of us use to speak up for what's going on in the world. Other people will find memes not helpful to the stuff going on in the world, but it is another way we can protest and for our voices to be heard and seen.
