Self Introduction post 1 - Helina Boatwright

 

My name is Helina Boatwright. I might be a senior or a junior; I need to check. I am an arts and crafts major. I like to do halloween inspired makeup. I like to try different hobbies that involve creativity. So not just art on canvas or paper, but also with hair, nails, and makeup. I always liked art, but because I wanted to be good at it, I stayed away from it. I got back into it in high school when I decided to try out doing a skull makeup look. It wasn't the best, but I was happy with it, and I kept doing makeup for a while and decided that doing those particular makeup looks required artistic skills. 

"Men who have heard the word usually associate it with women's liberation, with feminism, and therefore dismiss it as irrelevant to their own experiences." They see it as this because this is what it is, what they are told its connedted to. If a man were to admit that he even thought they could see how he or his friends could be a part of such a thing, they would be looked down upon. Even if people in their circle supported them, other men in the world would catch a glimpse of this and be left in utter discourse, and soon, men who were once comfortable with themselves being more connected to their emotions are now submerged back into the toxicity of the patriarchy. "Boys brutalized and victimized by partriacrchy more offten then not become patriarchal, embodying the abusive patriarchal masculinity that they once clearly recognized as evil."

What Memes Own Art History:

"Anyone can make a meme."

Memes can be made by anyone with anyting it can be complely hand dreaw of take from your favorite movie or show. all you have to do is add your own text over your image, and boom, you have a meme, they are either funny of challges own society's political ways. 

"Through an ironic and playful treatment of a fragmented subject. memes break down high and low cultures, disrupting ideas of authenticity and originality. "

 Memes make subjects that are hard to talk about easier for people to talk about in a less dense manner. 

Memes Are Our Generation's Protest Art; 

"They spread so quickly and evolve and transform, and it's hard to shut them down in the way other forms of communicative protest can be silenced."

They get import new around fast and can't easily be shut down makeing them the best possible way to spread news. Most people won't want to take time our rhere day to read an eassy but they will take time to stop and read a meme with their favorite celebrity. 

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez turned " herself into a reaction meme to take a jab at Trump by referencing an old video game line referred to as  ( one of the internet's first real memes), she understands intuitively the power of using memes to boost her messages."

The Political artist I chose is Ai Weiwei, he is and chinease contemporary activist artist. He is not afraid to say his opinion on the Venezuelan government and its stance on democracy and human rights. He looks deeper into the things that the government tried to cover up and finds out the government's dirty secrets. He uncovers the Shchuan school corruption while also following the collapse of the "tofu - dreg schools in the 2008 Sichuan earthquakes.
