I made this meme because its easily recognizable. Coming from the iconic movie that is "Megamind" this meme is as old as time. I made this meme because society tell us that men can freely express their emotions and personal struggles. But the reality is that society still view men as a pillar of masculinity and harshly criticize men when they do show vulnerability or any signs of a struggle. Showcasing that gender stereotypes and norms are still being used to define what men are and what they should become.
How Memes can act as a form of resistance and advocacy
Memes are great, not only are they quick to make and funny but also simplify the complexities of our societal issues. Memes can challenge society through humor as they can be made to spread a message or mock the powerful. A great example is "South Park" as the constantly ridicule Trump, his administration, and his cohorts like Kristi Noem and Elon and the department of ICE. Not only is it funny they also spread fast as memes aren't easily censored like other medias, they also welcome people into activism as anyone can create a meme.
What is Patriarchy?
To Bell Hooks is "the single most life-threatening social disease assaulting the male body and spirit in our nation". According to Hooks its essentially how society gave men free range of power and authority towards those that were deemed less than them. These "Men" and the idea of patriarchy allowed them to take control and dominate, often using violence to gain control over society eventually becoming a system where men were supreme. Hooks points out that it's impossible to avoid patriarchy as it's so deeply integrated into our current society.
