My meme represents the way society often tells men to suppress their emotions and true feelings.
Memes in general, as we have analyzed and learned, can be used to speak on various political/social problems, advocating for change. Memes function as a form of resistance since they allow people to visually represent their disdain for various things happening around them. When others see certain memes, they may gain new forms of knowledge and inspiration, now wanting to make their voices heard as well. Because of the way memes can get widespread and gain internet virality, largescale social change can take place within only a matter of time.
"Patriarchy is the single most life-threatening social disease assaulting the male body and spirit in our nation"(Bell Hooks, Understanding Patriarchy). This statement perfectly explains how interlinked systems of power, primarily misogyny and sexism, affect not only women but men as well. If men are raised and brought up in a society that tells them to not only be "strong" but devoid of emotion, they will eventually suffer from an assortment of mental health problems in the future. Not only that, but growing up with such mindsets will negatively impact a mans's chances of having healthy relationships with the women he meets. This is why the negative ideology patriarchy promotes must be shunned at all costs, ensuring both men and women can coexist peacefully.
